What Is the Most Expensive Tequila? 14 Bottles That Will Cost You a Small Fortune https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/most-expensive-tequila/ https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/most-expensive-tequila/#respond Mon, 29 Aug 2022 19:00:03 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=278630 …]]> Tequila has become a much-loved spirit over the past decade. Once reserved for shots on a big night out, tequila has elevated itself to a niche spirit drunk by sophisticated men and women who want something other than vodka or whiskey. Sales of the yummy liquid have increased by as much as 30% since 2014 in the United States. The advent of tequila cocktails and an increase in boutique brands have all helped tequila become everybody’s new favorite alcoholic drink. And just like other spirits, there are premium tequila bottles available that rank as some of the most expensive tequila products on the market.

North America’s oldest distilled spirit, tequila was first introduced during the sixteenth century. Over time it has slowly grown to become one of the world’s most popular spirits. This has as much to do with the marketing of tequila as it does its versatility – tequila can be drunk straight, on the rocks, or as a cocktail. There are over 3,000 different brands of tequila in the world, and while most are relatively well priced, there is a new range of high-quality drops aimed at those who like the finer things in life.

The below list of expensive tequilas might be a little out of most people’s price range, but they are all worth mentioning. Some come in luxury bottles and packaging while others have a high price due to the way the tequila is aged. However they are made and bottled, these are 14 of the most expensive tequilas in the world.

14. Don Julio Real Tequila – $400

most-expensive-tequila-14
Wooden Cork

When it comes to affordable tequila that’s still seen as high-end, Don Julio takes the cake. Although only 80 years old, the brand has become one of the most famous tequilas in America over the past few decades. Don Julio currently has nine different tequila expressions on the market, ranging from its Blanco Tequila all the way through to its Reposado Private Cask Tequila which is aged for ten months.

While these are all great tequilas, arguably the best version of this spirit comes in the form of the Don Julio Real Tequila. One of the first “Extra Anejo” ever released by the brand, it’s matured in oak barrels for up to five years. This gives it a smooth taste of chocolate, vanilla, and cooked agave. Due to its limited release, it’s very hard to find a bottle of Don Julio Real Tequila, with the few bottles out there continuing to rise in price every year.

13. Herradura 150 Anniversario Extra Anejo Tequila – $500

most-expensive-tequila-13
Herradura

This limited edition tequila from Herradura was released to celebrate the distiller’s 150th anniversary. The 100 months aged Extra Anejo is distilled from the finest blue weber agave and aged in American white oak barrels. This gives the tequila an aroma of vanilla with tasting notes of fruit, almonds, and cinnamon. Like any good tequila, it is best enjoyed straight or on the rocks.

As it is fairly recent, having only been released in 2020, this tasty tequila doesn’t have a huge price tag, although some may say $500 for a bottle is still a bit steep. However deep your pockets are, this is a fantastic tequila that comes in a stylish glass bottle that wouldn’t look out of place in any tequila collection.

12. DeLeon Leona Anejo Premium Tequila – $979

most-expensive-tequila-12
DeLeon

DeLeon is another luxury tequila brand that only delivers the best tequila. Their collection consists of Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo tequilas, with the DeLeon Anejo Tequila the most expensive of the three. Only the best tequila is selected for this premium drop, which is first aged for just over a year in American oak barrels before finishing in French oak wine casks. This creates a gratifying flavor of caramel, oak, and dried fruit.

This premium version of the tequila comes in a solid decanter made from French glass with the brand’s iconic skull and snakes cap coming in black instead of gold. This is housed in a collector’s box that comes with a flask so you can enjoy your tequila on the go.

11. Fuenteseca 21 Years Old Vintage 1993 Extra Anejo Tequila – $1,000

most-expensive-tequila-11
The Whiskey Exchange

If you manage to track a bottle of this lush tequila down you can count yourself extremely lucky. Only a very limited number of bottles were released, and due to the age of the tequila, no more will ever be produced.

Fuenteseca 21 Years Old Vintage 1993 Extra Anejo Tequila is made from agave harvested in 1993. The agave was grown for nine years before being harvested, distilled, and aged in 180-liter Canadian white oak casks. For ten years the tequila was stored in the town of Atotniclo el Alto at a low altitude before being moved to the cooler climate and higher altitude of Chapingo, Jalisco, in the mountains above Atotniclo el Alto. Here the barrels sat for a further 11 years before being bottled in 2014 and distributed to a few very lucky owners.

10. Patron x Guillermo Del Toro Anejo Tequila – $1,500

most-expensive-tequila-9
Patron

Famous tequila brand Patron teamed with Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro for this limited edition release. The tequila is aged in a variety of oak barrels and blended together to produce this golden liquid. With an aroma of dry fruit and vanilla, this tequila from Patron has a sweet, oaky taste with an agave finish. While the tequila is top quality, it’s the bottle that really makes this tequila worth splashing out for.

Designed by Del Toro, the crystal bottle is shaped like a human chest with a skull stopper. The decanter actually has two chambers, one for the tequila and one for a liqueur that can be used in cocktails to enhance the flavor of the tequila. Along with the fancy bottle, the box it comes in features hand-drawn images by Del Toro and opens up to form a mini alter, complete with two candle holders.

9. Clase Azul Ultra Extra Anejo Tequila – $1,700

most-expensive-tequila-10
Clase Azul

The first of two Clase Azul tequilas to land on this list, the Ultra Extra Anejo Tequila is a limited expression that will set you back $1,700 a bottle. Only 100 bottles are released with each batch, with half available in Mexico and the other half in America. The tequila is made using 100% Tequilliana weber blue agave that is aged for a minimum of three years in sherry oak barrels from Spain.

The tequila itself is red in color and meant to be enjoyed slowly, so don’t go having shots. It comes in a traditional Talavera-style decanter that is adjourned with platinum, silver, and 24-carat-gold. It’s quite a stylish-looking bottle that would be a great addition to anyone’s home bar, providing you can afford it.

8. 1800 Tequila Colección Reserva Extra Añejo Tequila – $1,800

most-expensive-tequila-8
1800 Tequila

When it comes to fantastic tequila, 1800 Tequila leads the way. A trusted brand with many years of experience, 1800 Tequila has been supplying premium tequila to its customers for over 220 years. They have several different options available when it comes to their standard range of tequila, along with ready-made margarita mixes. When it comes to 1800 Tequila’s limited edition releases, you can’t look past the Colección Reserva Extra Añejo Tequila.

One of the rarest tequilas on the market, Colección Reserva is double disttled and aged in French wine barells. Each year of its release, the tequila is bottled in a decanter created by a different artist. The last release in 2013 was crafted by Los Angeles-based artist Gary Baseman. The extravagant silver bottle is said to depict the tragic love story between a Mexican warrior and a magical mermaid.

7. Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio – $2,000

most-expensive-tequila-7
Arpege

Only 2,000 bottles of this rich real tequila are made each year, which accounts for the steep retail price. It also has a bit to do with the bottle that has images and lettering made from 24-karat gold.

The tequila itself is 100% blue agave aged for ten years in French oak barrels. This gives it a mellow oaky flavor that warms the mouth. Similar to many of the tequilas on this list, due to the limited amount of bottles released, Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio usually sells out quickly, making it a real collector’s item for tequila aficionados.

6. AsomBroso Del Porto Port Wine Rested 12 Year Extra Anejo – $2,800

most-expensive-tequila-6
AsomBrosa

AsomBroso Reserva Del Porto Expensive Tequila is an interesting concoction that is aged 12 years in sherry barrels from Portugal. This gives the tequila a much sweeter taste and a softer finish, making it an excellent sipping tequila. This high-end tequila is bottled in a crystal decanter based on the design of one found in an 18th-century castle in Europe. It took Ricardo Gamarra, the founder and CEO of AsomBroso, and Italian artist Luciano Gambaro over two years to perfect the bottle.

A silky smooth drop that’s 80 proof (ABV 40%), this is one of several special tequilas distilled by AsomBroso. According to the Robb Report, AsomBroso Reserva Del Porto is, “Aromatic and smooth, with toasted vanilla and honey notes (not to mention some nice heat), this tequila shows amazing depth, complexity, and length.”

5. Cincoro Founder’s Series Extra Anejo – $5,000

most-expensive-tequila-5
Cincoro

Cincoro is the brainchild of five NBA owners: Emila Fazzalari and Wye Grousbeck of the Boston Celtics, Jeanie Buss of the Los Angeles Lakers, Wes Edens of the Milwaukee Bucks, and the great Michael Jordan of the Charlotte Hornets. Aimed at those with a palate for the finer things in life, there are four different Cincoro expressions; Anejo, Extra Anejo, Blanco, and Reposado.

While the standard Extra Anejo retails for a costly $1,500, it’s the Founder’s Series that really makes a dent in your wallet. While there isn’t anything different in terms of the way the tequila is made or the bottle it comes in (although it is 1.75L as opposed to 750ml), each of the Cincoro owners has signed the 523 bottles available for sale. The ability to have a bottle of tequila signed by Jordan is the main reason for the extravagant price.

4. Patron En Lalique: Serie 2 Tequila – $7,500

most-expensive-tequila-4
Patron

The crown jewel in Patron’s collection of tequilas is this semi-affordable drop (depending on your yearly wage). One of the most popular tequila brands in the world, this is the second collaboration between the Mexican spirit and luxury French crystal brand Lalique.

The tequila is a wonderfully mature drop aged eight years in a combination of American oak, French oak, and sherry barrels. The result is a beautiful golden Extra Anejo with notes of fruit and sweet honey.

Lalique provides the bottle for this delicious tequila. It’s a clear-cut crystal decanter in an Art Deco style that comes in a wooden box engraved with the brand’s logo.

3. Clase Azul Extra Anejo 15th Anniversary Edition – $30,000

most-expensive-tequila-3
Clase Azul

Clase Azul is relatively new when it comes to premium tequila brands, having only been around for about 25 odd years. Along with making tasty tequila, Clas Azul is known for its inspired decanters. They are like collectible art pieces, making each bottle of Clase Azul that extra bit special.

To celebrate the company’s 15th year in business, Clase Azul released the extremely limited Clase Azul Extra Anejo 15th Anniversary Edition Tequila. Only 15 of these bottles were made, with just two being available for general sale at $30,000 a pop.

This premium tequila is made from a blend of two reserves. The first was aged in Spanish barrels for 15 years while the other was aged for 11 years in Productos Finos de Agave Distillery. As you can imagine, with such a high price this tequila is not meant to be drunk as a shot before a night out with the boys. It’s the ideal sipping tequila for a quiet night at home with a cigar.

What also sets this tequila apart from other Clase Azul selections is the ceramic bottle with 24-karat gold decorations. 15 different Mexican artists were commissioned to each create a decanter, meaning no bottle is the same, only adding to its impressive price tag.

2. Tequlia Ley .925 Ultra-Premium: $225,000

most-expensive-tequila-2
Tequila Ley

Tequila Ley is a premium brand that specializes in high-end tequila. In 2006 they released Tequila Ley .925 Ultra-Premium, which at that time, held the Guinness World Record for the most expensive tequila ever made. This yummy tequila is made using pure blue agave sap before being barrel-aged for six years.

As is often the case with expensive tequila, it’s the bottle that really makes the dollar value increase. Tequila Ley .925 Ultra-Premium comes housed in a decanter that combines pure white gold, yellow gold, and platinum to create a distinct bottle. It’s believed only 33 bottles were manufactured, making Tequila Ley .925 Ultra-Premium not only expensive but also very rare.

1. Tequila Ley .925 Diamante – $3.5 Million

most-expensive-tequila-1
Tequila Ley

If money is no option then look no further than Tequila Ley .925 Diamante. It is the most expensive tequila on the market by a mile. It first went on sale 12 years ago (2010) and is made with qualitative 100% select Extra Añejo tequila. Aged in barrels for seven years before being bottled, Wine Style described this tequila as a “luxurious, rich, mild taste of pepper tequila reveals notes of hot spices, green olives, and roasted pineapple crust. The finish is perfect hues combined acute agave and herbs.” Tasty.

But it’s the bottle, not the tequila that makes Tequila Ley .925 Diamante such an expensive drink. Designed by Jose Davalos Mejia, it took ten months to craft and is made from two kilograms of platinum (one of the most expensive metals in the world) and decorated with 4,100 perfectly white diamonds. If the $3.5 million price tag is a little too steep, you can buy a regular 750ml bottle for around $75. It’s the same tequila, just without the expensive bottle.

What Is the Hottest Pepper in the World? Here Are 10 of the Spiciest https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/hottest-pepper-in-the-world/ https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/hottest-pepper-in-the-world/#respond Fri, 05 Aug 2022 21:00:27 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=276607 …]]> People are obsessed with hot food these days. No, we don’t mean hot as in straight out of the oven, but hot in taste. The hot sauce business is in overdrive as regular folk’s appetite for a spicy kick to their meals continues to rise. There’s no real reason why people are obsessed with chowing down on the hottest pepper in the world, but there are a few factors that may have had an influence.

While it often comes down to science, pop culture has also played a role. Shows like Hot Ones, where celebrity guests are interviewed while eating chicken wings doused in varying hot sauces, have helped the hot sauce industry become a force. Adding hot peppers to a meal or splashing a dollop of hot sauce is the norm now. People are more open to trying other food from other cultures, with hot peppers and sauce becoming more widely used by your everyday Joe at home.

Then there are pepper creators who are continually coming up with hotter breeds of chillis for people to try. Many chili growers are crafting these tongue-numbing peppers for the dedicated chili lovers who want to push their tastebuds to the extreme. Others are just aiming to break the record for the hottest pepper in hopes of making the Guinness Book of Records.

So how do you know if a pepper is hot? You refer to the Scoville scale.

What Is the Scoville Scale?

The Scoville Scale is a way of measuring just how hot and spicy a pepper really is. It calculates the amount of capsaicin (the chemical compound that causes spicy heat) in a pepper and assigns it a number to determine just how hot it is.

It was invented by American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville way back in 1912. His early version of the test involved mixing capsaicin oil from a pepper with a solution of sugar water. Scoville would then slowly dilute the solution after each had been tasted until there was no longer any heat. He then gave each pepper a numerical value based on the number of times he had to dilute the solution. So a pepper with a Scoville rating of 100,000 has been tested 100,000 times before it was no longer hot.

Science has advanced over the years and the pungency of peppers is now determined using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). While this method doesn’t give a numbered rating, a formula has been created that allows for the Scoville Scale to still be used when assigning the heat of a pepper.

So What is the Hottest Pepper in the World?

While you have probably heard of the Carolina Reaper, a pepper widely regarded as the hottest chili on the planet, its hold on the title isn’t as strong as once thought. The Carolina Reaper pepper was declared the world’s hottest pepper by Guinness World Records in 2017, but that has been disputed since then.

Many other chili growers have produced significantly hotter peppers without gaining recognition. Some of the world’s other hottest peppers include the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, the Naga Morich, the Ghost Pepper, the Komodo Dragon, and the 7 Pot Barrackpore Pepper.

It’s rumored amongst the chili-growing fraternity that Guinness doesn’t want to keep awarding new records in case it diminishes the award. The heat and strength of chilis continue to change at an alarming rate, with a new variant claiming to be hotter than the last seemingly appearing every few months.

Despite Guinness’ stance, we are including hotter chilies not sanctioned by the record books. Some of these peppers will have you skulling milk and never wanting to eat another chili in your life. So without further ado, here are the 11 hottest peppers in the world.

12. Ghost Pepper (Bhut Jolokia) – 1,041,427 SHU

Ghost Pepper (Bhut Jolokia)

Grow N’ More/YouTube

The Bhut Jolokia pepper is often known as the Ghost Pepper. It topped the Red Savina Habanero in 2006 and was awarded the Guinness World Record for the hottest pepper in the world. Of course, it is nowhere near the level of heat of the top chilis created over the past decade but it still commands a presence on this list.

It became well known after someone ate an entire Ghost Pepper on YouTube and it blew up. Cultivated in India, it is a hybrid of many different chilis. They come in a variety of different colors but are all the same wrinkle shape. They are great for cooking, with many Indians using them in curries to add an extra kick.

11. New Mexico Scorpion – 1,191,595 SHU

New Mexico Scorpion - 1,191,595 SHU

The New Mexico Scorpion is one of the hottest chilis from the New Mexico range of peppers. These peppers are generally not very hot and are used in everyday cooking by Mexican locals. The New Mexico Scorpion was discovered by National Fiery Foods Show producer Dave DeWitt, chemical engineer Marlin Bensinger, and chili grower Jim Duffy.

They had the pepper tested independently by Analytical Foods Laboratory, which found the New Mexico Scorpion has a Scoville Heat Unit of 1,191,595.

10. Naga Viper – 1,382,118 SHU

Naga Viper - 1,382,118 SHU

Bill Moore’s Hot & Spicy Reviews/YouTube

Long before the Carolina Reaper was classed as the hottest pepper in the world by the Guinness Book of Records, that title was held by the Naga Viper. This exceptionally hot red pepper comes from England. It was created by chili farmer Gerald Fowler of The Chilli Pepper Company.

He created this ghastly pepper by combining the Naga Morich, the Bhut Jolokia (also known as the Ghost Pepper), and the Trinidad Scorpion. These are three of the hottest peppers on the market, so there’s no surprise it ended up on this list.

It’s a great chili to start with if you are just beginning your journey eating hot peppers. Obviously, there are peppers with much less heat, but this is still a great way to kick things off. If you are keen on growing your own, you can purchase Naga Viper seeds for just $4.20 online. Give it a go and see if you can handle the heat.

9. Trinidad Scorpion Butch T – 1,463,700 SHU

Trinidad Scorpion Butch T - 1,463,700 SHU

Heirloom Reviews/YouTube

Butch Taylor, the man behind Zydeco Hot Sauce, is the mastermind of this heat-seeking chili. Grown by the Chilli Factory down in Australia, this pepper is classified as “super hot” and is a real bum burner. It once held the Guinness record for the hottest chili in the world for three years before being dethroned by the Naga Viper.

This chili pepper is very red in color with a roundish shape. It gets the name “scorpion” because the tip of the pepper resembles a scorpion’s tale and “Butch T” after its creator. It might not have as much heat as some of the peppers on this list, but it’s still recognized as a real spicy pepper.

8. 7 Pot Primo – 1,473,480 SHU

7 Pot Primo - 1,473,480 SHU

Chase The Heat/YouTube

When it comes to hot peppers, 7 Pot peppers are always part of the conversation. These peppers come from Trinidad and are well known and loved by chili aficionados. The 7 Pot Primo was created by horticulturist Troy Primeaux, who goes by the nickname Primo, hence why this particular pepper is known as the 7 Pot Primo.

Primeaux created this hot pepper by combining a Naga Morich pepper with a Trinidad 7 Pot pepper. The result is a super hot pepper with a Scoville Heat Unit of 1,473,480. Although not as hot as the famous Carolina Reaper, the 7 pot Primo has a similar taste to the record-setting chili.

7. Dorset Naga Pepper – 1,500,00 SHU

Dorset Naga Pepper - 1,500,00 SHU

Heirloom Reviews/YouTube

This super hot pepper is a versatile pepper that can be eaten by itself or used in everyday cooking for those who want to add a little something something to their meals. English couple Joy and Michael Michaud of Peppers by Post are the dup responsible for creating this famous pepper. They purchased a Naga Morich planet from a local store. Over the years they mixed the seeds of the pepper plant with those of other fruits to come up with the Dorset Naga Pepper, named so because the two live near the English county of Dorset.

The Dorset Naga Pepper is very different from the original Bangladesh version in terms of shape and texture. It’s also much hotter, with a Scoville Heat Unit rating of 1,500,000.

6. 7 Pot Douglah – 1,853l 936 SHU

7 Pot Douglah - 1,853l 936 SHU

Peter Stanley/YouTube

The 7 Pot Douglah is one of the hottest variants of the 7 Pop Pepper range of peppers. Not only is it one of the hottest peppers on the planet, but it is regarded as the hottest pepper that isn’t red. While it starts off green, it turns brown as it matures. The brown color and shape of the chili often make people think of a prune. But don’t let that fool you. This pepper means business.

The 7 Pot Douglah has many different names, including Chocolate 7 Pod and the 7 Pot Brown. Like most peppers, it has a fruity taste that lingers long after the pepper is devoured.

5. Trinidad Moruga Scorpion – 2,009,231 SHU

Trinidad Moruga Scorpion - 2,009,231 SHU

Peter Stanley/YouTube

Before the Carolina Reaper pepper claimed the Guinness World Record for the hottest pepper in the world, the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper held that honor. This firey pepper was announced as the world’s hottest by the New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute in 2012. It originates near the village of Moruga in Trinidad and Tobago and has a sweet flavor that combines well with the heat of the pepper.

Director of the Chile Pepper Institue, Paul Bosland, told the Associated Press; “You take a bite. It doesn’t seem so bad, and then it builds and it builds and it builds. So it is quite nasty.” It might not be the hottest chili, but the Trinidad Scorpion is still one pepper that will cause havoc once it hits your stomach.

4. Carolina Reaper – 2,200,000 SHU

Carolina Reaper - 2,200,000 SHU

DIGGER DISLEY/YouTube

The pepper officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the hottest pepper in the world, the Carolina Reaper pepper is an icon amongst peppers. Officially recorded at 1,569,383 Scoville Heat Units by Guinness, recent tests have shown a SHU of 2,200,000. That’s 200 times hotter than a jalapeno pepper!

This deadly pepper was invented by pepper king Ed Currie. He mated a Pakistani Naga with a Red Habanero type from St Vincents Island in the West Indies to produce this tasty treat. If you ever attend hot pepper eating competitions, the Carolina Reaper pepper always features, often as the final hurdle for contents to pass.

3. Dragon’s Breath Pepper – 2,480,000 SHU

Dragon's Breath Pepper

This super hot pepper is the brainchild of chili farmer Neal Price, Nottingham Trent University, and NPK Technology. The three got together to try and created a skin anesthetic using the capsaicin procured by the pepper. It was later cultivated by Welsh chili breeder Mike Smith who was trying to grow an attractive pepper plant to enter in a competition. He ended up crafting one of the world’s hottest peppers that he named the Dragon’s Breath Pepper after the Welsh dragon.

The third hottest pepper in the world has a SHU of 2,480,000 and is sure to cause serious damage to those not used to eating peppers.

2. Apollo Pepper – 3,000,000 SHU

Apollo Pepper - 3,000,000 SHU

Pepper Geek/YouTube

Another Ed Currie creation, Apollo Pepper will blow your minds. The pepper made its debut as a hot sauce on the 14th season of the famed interview program Hot Ones. It’s the 10th sauce used on the program, which is used as the “Last Dab.”

A collaboration between Currie and Hot Ones, the pepper is a hybrid of the Carolina Reaper and the Pepper X, two of the hottest peppers on the planet. The result is an eye-watering pepper unlike anything you’ll ever try. The sauce is made of just four ingredients; Apollo Pepper, distilled vinegar, Apollo Pepper powder, and Apollo Pepper distillate. It combines the fruity flavor of the Carolina Reaper with the earthy tinge of the Pepper X. This one is only for those with a strong stomach.

1. Pepper X – 3,180,000 SHU

The unofficial hottest pepper in the world goes by the name Pepper X. This fire-burning pepper comes from the mad mind of Ed Currie, the man responsible for the world record-holding Carolina Reaper. Currie came up with this heat-seeking missile of a chili by crossing multiple variants of extremely hot peppers. It is said to have recorded a score of 3.18 million on the Scoville Heat Unit. Trying this hot pepper is likely to have you running to the bathroom and shooting fire out of your ass.

If you think you can handle this heatwave, Heatonist has released The Classic Hot Sauce: Pepper X Edition. This 5 oz bottle of chili sauce is only for those who are true pepper lovers. Heatonist describes it as “a powerful slow-building burn combines with tart apple cider vinegar, garlic, and turmeric for a craveable heater you can throw on anything.” Yummy!

What Is the Most Expensive Bourbon in the World? https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/most-expensive-bourbon/ https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/most-expensive-bourbon/#respond Fri, 15 Jul 2022 17:00:59 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=275000 …]]> When it comes to traditional American spirits, it doesn’t get any more red, white, and blue than bourbon. While most people think of bourbon brands like Jack Daniels, Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve, and Wild Turkey usually spring to mind. These cheaper options are solid but pale in comparison to the most expensive bourbon bottles that are on the market. But before delivering into these pricey drops, here’s a little background on the distilling process.

The brown liquor is America’s take on whiskey that has to be made using a corn mash bill of at least 51%. It must be distilled at no higher than 160 proof and diluted to no higher than 125 proof. Bourbon is then generally stored in charred oak casks with no time limits on the aging process.

Its popularity has risen through the roof over the past decade, with more and more bourbon brands popping up across the States. While it doesn’t have to be produced in Kentucky, about 95% of it is. There is a bourbon out there for everyone, which got us thinking about the most expensive bourbon in the world.

Bourbon whiskey has been distilled in America since the 18th century. Over that time there have been a plethora of choices for the whiskey connoisseur to consume at all different price points. While most bottles are reasonably priced, there are some rare and expensive bourbons out there and that’s what we want to focus on.

These bottles of bourbon have been aged for many years to create distinct flavors that whiskey lovers will salivate over. As the demand for this tasty spirit continues to rise, so do consumer’s tastes, with more and more people looking for that rare bottle to add to their collection. So keep on reading to discover the most expensive bourbons in the world.

10. Parker’s Heritage Collection 3rd Edition Golden Anniversary Bourbon – $6,499

most-expensive-whiskey-1

Parker’s Heritage Collection is a wonderful full-bodied whiskey from Heaven Hill that’s been released every year since 2007. It’s named after master distiller Parker Beam, the man responsible for Heaven Hill whiskey. While there have been some great drops over the years, including the fourth edition Wheated Bourbon and ninth edition Malt Whiskey, the one most desired is the Golden Anniversary third edition.

This rare bourbon is bottled at 50% ABV and features a blend of whiskies and marks a fitting tribute to Paker Beam, celebrating his 50-year career. This bourbon has a bit of everything, with the Whisky Advocate proclaiming in their review that the Golden Anniversary Bourbon is a complex but balanced whiskey with hints of “candied citrus, nectarine, blueberry, and sultana anchored by a nougat center, laced with honeyed vanilla and orange creamsicle. There’s a dusting of cocoa powder, brittle mint, and cinnamon, too. Tobacco leaves, polished leather, and teasing bourbon barrel char round out the palate, emerging more prominently towards a warming finish. A classic!”

9. Buffalo Trace OFC Bourbon – $12,999

Buffalo Trace OFC Bourbon
This rare 25-year-old bourbon pays homage to the original OFC distillery that first opened in 1870. It’s one of the most state-of-the-art distilleries of its time. It was the first to use copper fermentation vats, column stills, and a new steam heating system that is still used by Buffalo Trace today.

This edition of the bourbon is the fifth to have been released. Distilled in 1995 using oak barrels, this whiskey is limited to just 1,500 bottles. The sweet brown liquid with hints of cinnamon, leather, dark chocolate, and tobacco leaves comes in a crystal bottle with a hand-applied label in a collectors wooden box. It didn’t take long to sell out when first released and now sells online for just under $13,000.

8. Willett Family Estate Bottled Single-Barrel 16-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey – $16,660

most-expensive-whiskey-2

While there are other bourbons from Willett Family Estate that have been aged longer, the 16-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey is one of the most sought after by whiskey drinkers. Aged a glorious 16 years and bottled at 107 proof, this delicious whiskey is a powerful drop best served neat or with a splash of water.

Taken from the family’s Private Barrel Selection program, this whiskey is made in small quantities (usually no more than 100 bottles) and described by Willet as “an unfiltered, barrel proof, straight Bourbon Whiskey of unusual depth and complexity.” Not only is this a one-of-a-kind bourbon, but it has a price to match, with the average bottle selling for $16,660

7. The Last Drop 1980 Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky – $22,247

most-expensive-bourbon-3

Limited to just 250 bottles, The Last Drop 1980 Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky is a very special drop. It was distilled at George T Stagg Distillery, now better known as Buffalo Trace. The whiskey used for this bourbon was found hidden away in barrels that had been long forgotten about at the old Buffalo Trace distillery.

The 1980 bourbon was originally created by master distiller Gary Gayheart, whose apprentice, Harlan Wheatley, found the barrels and decided to turn them into what is now The Last Drop 1980. With an average price of around $22,247, this 90-proof bourbon is renowned for its aging process and flamboyant taste.

6. Double Eagle Very Rare 20-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon – $22,999

Double Eagle Very Rare 20-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon
This is another fantastic bourbon that comes from the Buffalo Trace distillery. Maturing twice as long as Double Eagle’s standard 10-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon, the third edition of this limited bourbon whiskey is 101 proof that has “a nose of dark cherries and creamy caramel, on the palate, dark chocolate, smoked oak and dates, followed by a long, complex finish of cinnamon, anise, and oak.”

This bourbon from Double Eagle is bottled in a handmade crystal decanter that comes packaged in a silver box with sliding doors. Each bottle is also individually numbered, adding to the uniqueness of this whiskey and the $22,999 price tag.

5. Michter’s 25-Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey – $23,070

most-expensive-bourbon-1

Founded by John Shenk in 1753, Michter’s has an interesting history. While successful during its early years, Prohibition led to the closure of the distillery. While it did reopen, it passed through the hands of many different owners before shutting down again in 1989. That’s when Joseph J. Magliocco and Richard “Dick” Newman stepped in, turning Michter’s into one of America’s best bourbon producers.

The 25-Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey is one of the label’s best drops with a unique flavor. Considered a “unicorn” amongst whiskey aficionados, the spirit is aged for 25 years in American white oak barrels.

Only 360 bottles were released in 2017 with a barrel strength of 116.2 proof. If you can find one of this unopened you’re very lucky, but don’t expect it to come cheap, with bottles ranging between $15,000 – $23,000.

4. Colonel E.H. Taylor Old Fashioned Sour Mash Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey – $28,999

most-expensive-bourbon-2

This small-batch bourbon whiskey uses an old recipe to recreate Edmund Hayes Taylor Jr.’s famous sour mash. It involves allowing the mash to sour naturally before the distillation process, creating its unique caramel flavor with hints of licorice and butterscotch. This bourbon was distilled in 2002 and bottled a decade later in 2012. It won a Gold Medal in the Fifty Best Bourbons competition of 2012, which along with its $28,999 price tag, makes it one of the most sought-after expensive bourbons on the planet.

3. 1990 Van Winkle Family Reserve 16 Year – $29,999

most-expensive-bourbon-4

Just piping Colonel E.H. Taylor’s Old Fashioned Sour Mash is this beauty from the Van Winkle brand. Taken from the family reserve at the Boone Distillery, where it was distilled and barrelled in 1974, Julian Van Winkle III created many different batches over the years, with this being one of the rarest. It’s believed this bourbon was originally meant for the Japanese whisky market.

While the bourbon is still in production today, it is done so at a different distillery. This makes the limited number of the 1990 Van Winkle Family Reserve 16 Year bottled available extremely expensive, as they are some of the last bottles to contain bourbon distilled at Boon Distillery.

This was long before Van Winkle was bought out by Stitzel Weller Distillery, which was acquired by Buffalo Trace (now owned by Sazerac Company which controls much of the whiskey in America). That’s why the current price for a bottle of this tasty spirit is just under $30,000

2. Redemption 36-Year-Old Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey – $41,999

most-expensive-bourbon-5

Only 18 bottles of Redemption 36-Year-Old Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey were produced, which is one of the main reasons it sits so high on this list with an estimated value of $41,999. It’s one of the oldest whiskeys ever distilled and is part of Redemption’s “Redemption Ancients” long of bourbons.

“The Ancients collection features whiskies laid down in barrels in 1978 and 1998 at the old Seagram’s distillery in Lawrenceburg Indiana, the same place where every drop of Redemption Whiskey has ever been produced,” said Tom Steffanci, President of Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits.

This particular bourbon is 109.9 proof and smells like dark chocolate and spices. On the palate, you can taste apple pie, maple, caramel, and pears. It comes in bottles that have been silk-screened with rye fronds. The metal labels are hand-painted while the cork contains a real 1978 U.S. penny to celebrate the year it was distilled.

1. Old Rip Van Winkle 25-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey – $57,078

most-expensive-bourbon-6

The most expensive bourbon on this list comes from Old Rip Van Winkle. This awe-inspiring bourbon whiskey is the oldest ever released by the distillery. Taken from 11 different casks, it spent 25 years maturing, beginning its journey in 1989 at the Stitzel-Weller distillery. It was then moved to Buffalo Trace Distillery in 2002 before being transferred into stainless steel tanks in 2014 to make sure it didn’t overage.

Not only is this bourbon one of the oldest, but when released in 2017 it came bottled in a homemade glass decanter. Only 710 of these were ever produced. Each bottle of bourbon comes in a wooden box made from the oak barrels that the spirit was aged in. It’s also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed and numbered by Julian Van Winkle, grandson of founder Julian P. Pappy Van Winkle, Sr.

Originally retailing for just $1,800, due to the limited amount of bottles produced, an unopened Old Rip Van Winkle 25-Year-Old can now fetch as much as $57,078 according to Wine-Searcher

The bottle is made in conjunction with jewelers Garrard and crystal brand Baccarat. As you can see from the image above, the results are spectacular. Only five of these bottles were ever produced with the profits from the sales going towards a variety of different charities.

14. Armand de Brignac Midas – $265,000

Armand de Brignac Midas

This champagne is loved by rappers, and for good reason. It’s owned by the legendary Jay-Z. The hip-hop mogul took ownership of the company in 2014 and has made millions of dollars selling the stuff around the world. What makes this version of Armand de Brignac so special is the gold bottle it comes in. Oh yeah, and the fact that it is a 30-liter bottle, which is equivalent to 50 750 ml bottles of Armand de Brignac.

Standing roughly four feet tall and weighing around 100 pounds, there is no bottle of champagne quite like Armand de Brignac Midas.

13. The Macallan 64 Year Old in Lalique – $460,000

The Macallan 64 Year Old in Lalique
Tatler Hong Kong/YouTube

This is the first of many drops from The Macallan to feature on this list. This whisky, in particular, is considered extremely rare due to the way it is distilled and then matured. It is vatted from three sherry Spanish oak casks. The first was filled in 1942, the second in 1945, and the third in 1946. This process helps create the distinct taste of this whisky.

Only four of these bottles of The Macallan were produced, with each said to have been made from hand-cut crystal and weighing a whopping 25 pounds when full.

12. 1945 Romanee-Conti Wine – $558,000

1945 Romanee-Conti Wine
Audacy Originals/YouTube

This bottle of wine sold at auction in 2018 for a touch over half a million in 2018. The single bottle of 1945 Romanee-Conti Wine is the highest-selling 750ml bottle of Burgundy in history. The reason for its rarity is that this particular bottle was not only produced in the fabled town of Vosne-Romanée, but only 600 bottles were ever made. Not only that, but the vines used to create this delicious drop were destroyed after this vintage and replaced with new grapes.

Described by Sotheby’s as “concentrated and exotic, with seemingly everlasting power – a wine at peace with itself,” it is easy to see why this exclusive wine got snapped up for such a price.

11. Diva Vodka – $1 Million

Diva Vodka
AMB/YouTube

Diva Vodka is aimed at those who enjoy a high-quality spirit at an inflated price. Made from English grain, the vodka is filtered several times through different substances. Taking more than three weeks, the distillation process involves the vodka being filtered through ice water, activated charcoal, and diamond sand and crushed gems.

The finished product is then poured into bottles featuring diamonds, platinum, and gold, as well as a circular tube down the front containing 3,000 Swarovski crystals. This tube is also able to be removed, so you can use the crystals for other jewelry or sell them off to pay for the bottle.

10. Medis Coconut Brandy – $1 Million

Medis Coconut Brandy
WatchMojo.com/YouTube

US-based distiller Mendis is responsible for this rather expensive bottle of brandy. Although it is called coconut brandy, not one actual coconut is involved in the distillation process. The brandy is actually made using the sap from the Borassus palm found in Sri Lanka. It is aged in wooden casks for two years before being bottled.

Unlike the majority of expensive alcohol on this list, the bottle Medis Coconut Brandy comes in isn’t that fancy. It’s just a clear bottle that is numbered and certified by the distillery founder W.M Mendis. What makes it so unique is that only 10 bottles were ever made, hence the massive price tag.

9. Goût de Diamants – $1.2 Million

Goût de Diamants
24×7 Universe/YouTube

This handmade luxury champagne was curated in the village of Oger in France. This is a high-end alcoholic beverage that comes in an incredible looking bottle. Luxury designer Alexander Amosu is responsible for the sleek bottle that replaces the original crystal logo with one made from 18-carat white gold with a 19-carat white diamond placed in the center.

Speaking about the bottle Amosu said, “The bottle already has a distinctive look with its natural design, all I had to do is bring it to the next level of ultimate luxury.” Despite its price, the Goût de Diamants is a rather simple looking bottle that houses delicious champagne.

8. Russo-Baltique Vodka – $1.35 Million

Russo-Baltique Vodka
Edmund Boqueo/YouTube

Here is something for vodka fans. This expensive vodka is surprisingly made by Russian car maker Russo-Baltique. The smooth spirit comes in a bottle that resembles the radiator guard used for the Russo-Baltique car. The bottle is 30 mm thick and made from bulletproof glass. The bottle top is crafted from pure gold and features a replica of the Russian Imperial Eagle encrusted with diamonds.

Created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Russo-Baltique, the first bottle of this luxurious spirit was gifted to the Prince Albert of Monaco. It also popped up in an episode of House of Cards

7. The Macallan Michael Dillon – $1.4 Million

The Macallan Michael Dillon
CompassLongview/YouTube

This rare bottle of The Macallan whisky has sold at auction several times for massive profits, with the last bottle going for a cool $1.4 million in 2018. What makes it so unique is the fact that it features a bottle design by Michael Dillon. The Irish artist took three months to hand paint the bottle that depicts the Easter Elchies House of The Macallan and the Scottish Highlands. For his efforts, Dillon is allowed to purchase any bottle of The Macallan range at cost price for the rest of his life, which sounds like a good deal to us.

Not only is the bottle fantastic, but the whisky inside is mouth-watering. The Macallan Michal Dillon contains a 60-year-old matured spirit first crafted in 1926. This makes it one of the rarest whiskies of all time.

6. Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne – $2 Million

Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne
ACQUADICRISTALLO/YouTube

Also known as ‘the DNA of cognac,’ this tasty drop has been aged for an incredible 100 years. Produced since 1776, this expensive cognac has an alcholo percentage of 41% and comes in an extravagant bottle adjorned with jewels. The bottle is coated in 24 carat yellow gold and sterling platnimum, giving it a very regal look. If that’s not impressive enough, there is a whopping 6,500 diamonds decorating the bottle. Weighing around 17 pounds, it’s easy to see why this hefty bottle of congnac is so expensive.

5. The Macallan Fine & Rare – $2 Million

The Macallan Fine & Rare
Whisky Auctioneer Ltd/YouTube

The Macallan single malt Scotch Whisky is one of the most famous whiskies on the planet. Distilled at the brand’s manufacturing plant in Scotland since 1824, The Macallan is loved by whiskey connoisseurs. The Fine & Rare series is a range of whisky distilled between 1926 and 1991 that is aimed at collectors. One such bottle from this collection sold at auction for $2 million.

The 1926 60-year-old vintage is one of the oldest bottles of whisky to sell at auction. It is often referred to as the ‘Holy Grail’ of whisky, with only 40 bottles ever produced. This is why it went for so much at auction. So while it might not come in a fancy bottle, it tastes like nothing else on this list.

4. Tequila Ley .925 Diamante – $3.5 Million

tequila-ley-925
Tequila Ley.925

Priced at a whopping $3.5 million, Tequila Ley .925 Diamante is the most expensive tequila in the world. Tequila Ley is made from premium extra Anejo agave and barrel-aged for seven years. It is housed in an extraordinary bottle that took 17 artists ten months to create. The bottle is given the name the Diamond Sterling Bottle due to the materials that surround it. The bottle features 4.5 pounds of platinum and 4,100 perfectly white diamonds.

It is an impressive feat of construction and easy to see why the price tag for this tequila is so expensive. It is certainly one of the more expensive alcohol brands on this list that we mere mortals will never be able to afford.

3. Billionaire Vodka – $3.7 Million

Billionaire Vodka
samacharpati/YouTube

As the name suggests, this supreme vodka is suited for those who fit into the billionaire category. Billionaire vodka comes from the mind of luxury designer Leon Verres. Inside the bottle, you will find 18 liters of the purest vodka distilled according to the original Russian recipe. The vodka was even filtered using diamonds, adding to the luxurious appeal of this alcoholic beverage.

The outside of the bottle is the real star, covered in 3,000 real diamonds and Swarovski crystals. A known animal rights activist, Verres has made sure the fur surrounding the bottle and the cap is fake. It also comes with a diamond-encrusted ice bucket and a pair of white gloves to wear when pouring the vodka.

2. Isabella Islay Whisky – $6.2 Million

Isabella Islay Whisky
uncledaddy media/YouTube

The world’s most expensive bottle of whisky comes from the Luxury Beverage Company in the United Kingdom. They are responsible for Isabella Islay Whisky, a single malt Scotch whisky aged 30 years. While no doubt tasty, it’s not the whisky that makes this drink so expensive. Once again it is the bottle it comes in.

Isabella Islay Whisky comes in a glamourous bottle with a white gold label. It contains a stunning 8,5000 diamonds and close to 300 rubies. If that isn’t enough, this luxurious whisky comes in a solid oak box embedded with 18-carat gold designs and a silver plaque. The bottle is selling for a tidy $6.2 million.

1. D’Amalfi Limoncello Supreme – $43.6 Million

D’Amalfi Limoncello Supreme
tourbonandbooze/YouTube

Limoncello is a favorite after-dinner drink enjoyed by Italians. It is a digestive meant to help with settling your tummy after a big meal. D’Amalfi is well known for their limoncello, so much so that they decided to commission a very special bottle for an unnamed Italian lady. While the liqueur inside the bottle is the same limoncello most people get to experience, the bottle itself makes this the most expensive alcohol ever produced.

The exclusively designed bottle sports three single-cut flawless diamonds on the neck totaling 13 carats. There is also a super rare 18.5 carat diamond on the front of the bottle. Two bottles of this liqueur were created, one for the lady and another for some lucky person to buy. That could be you, as long as you have a spare $43.6 million on hand.

The 16 Best Dark Beers To Enjoy This Winter https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/best-dark-beer/ https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/best-dark-beer/#respond Tue, 28 Dec 2021 20:00:13 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=264527 …]]> Once upon a time, you could fit what I knew about dark beers onto the back of a postage stamp.

Through rigorous study and some not insignificant taste testing, I’ve been able to improve my knowledge base to at least hold a reasonable conversation with professional dark beer devotees.

While there is a huge (and often confusing) range in dark beer variety – from porter and stout to dark lager, sour beer, and even India Pale Ale versions – I’ve fallen back on what works best for me as a beer drinker.

Flavor and enjoyment.

The following collection of dark beers to enjoy this winter covers different types of darker beer that will help introduce flavor and enjoyment to your beer fridge, particularly if you are new (or nearly new) to enjoying this fascinating genre.

While hardly an exhaustive study, the list features some great American craft beer alongside some recognizable favorites from across the globe.

As always, drink responsibly!

Best Buy

1. Sierra Nevada Narwhal Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout

sierra-nevada-narwhal

Check Price

I’m a firm believer in Sierra Nevada beers being some of the best beer the USA has to offer, and if you are looking for a top-quality dark beer they have you covered.

Brewed at 11.9% ABV (almost double the strength of a standard stout) and aged in American bourbon barrels, it’s got an impressively powerful mouthfeel combining creamy malt with the woodiness of oak and vanilla.

You’ll taste hints of chocolate and espresso on the palate, however, the challenger hops give it just enough pop and bitterness to cut the sweet flavor of malts such as two-row pale, caramel, chocolate, honey, Carafa III, and roasted barley.

One for the traditional style beer lovers, this Russian Imperial stout is a big-bodied delight.

2. Westmalle Dubbel

westmalle-dubbel-beer

Check Price

Westmalle Dubbel is a classically dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer that’s had a secondary fermentation in the bottle (hence the name Dubbel).

A Trappist brewery does not create a set style of beer. It denotes that the beer has been brewed at a Trappist Monastery. There are only 11 in the world that are entitled to carry the “Authentic Trappist Product” label.

Westmalle Dubbel is attractive in the glass, with a creamy head and the fragrance of malt. It’s rich and complex on the tongue, featuring a soft mouthfeel augmented by herby spices and a fruity yet slightly bitter finish.

If you are looking for a quintessentially Belgian dark beer made by Trappist monks, this quality bottle is hard to go past.

3. Guinness Draft/Guinness Extra Stout

guiness-draught

Check Price

Sure, this may be a boring addition, however, there are plenty of reasons why this famous dark Irish dry stout has been entrancing customers since 1759 across 150 countries.

Despite its reputation as a thick dark beer, Guinness Irish stout has a lot in common with lager, given it’s a sessionable 4.2% ABV that contains a similar amount of calories in the glass. Its rich and creamy mouthfeel from malted barley makes it the ideal entry point for those new to stout.

If you are looking for a heavier, more traditional stout beer style, then Guinness Extra Stout will appeal. You’ll notice the slightly different label, brighter, more bitter flavor, and higher ABV (5.6%) on the can.

With the Guinness Extra Stout, you’ll notice roasted barley and the added crispness of carbonation in the beer’s flavor.

4. Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin

westmalle-dubbel-beer

Check Price

I was extremely tempted to put this Oatmeal Stout at the top of this best beer list based on name alone, so it’s a bonus that West Coast brewer Firestone Walker’s Velvet Merkin tastes full and rich.

Dark beers like oatmeal stout offer an oilier, fuller mouthfeel than traditional milk stouts and tend to ramp up the malty flavor. For relative novices such as myself, there’s not a huge amount of difference in taste, and it does feel at times that a knife and fork may make consumption a bit easier.

Velvet Merkin offers chocolate, espresso, and vanilla bean on the nose, and a palate of malty caramel and dark chocolate. It’s an interesting, drinkable oatmeal stout that should serve as a compelling comparison to other varieties of darker beer.

5. Goose Island Bourbon County Stout

goose-island-stout

Check Price

The Bourbon County Brand Stout from Illinois brewer Goose Island has been a huge success. While they have a few different variations, the original – brewed in honor of the 1000th batch at the Clybourn brewpub – is a darker beer worth savoring.

Bourbon County Stout is a true black beer that pours with a head reminiscent of the bourbon barrel aging process. The nose mixes oak, chocolate, vanilla bean, and whiskey woodsmoke.

With the high alcohol content and intense, aromatic flavors, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout is definitely a bottle for those who love dark beers, more so than the new entrant.

6. Stone Brewing Co. Xocoveza Stout

stone-xocoveza-mocha-stout

Check Price

A quality stout with a Mexican hot chocolate vibe from iconic West Coast producer Stone Brewing, Xocoveza Stout was originally a special collaboration – based on homebrewer Chris Banker’s competition winner – that became a part of the fabric of the company’s seasonal craft beer lineup.

Xocoveza Stout features coffee, pasilla peppers, vanilla bean, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Stone Brewing’s in-house-made chocolate. Xocoveza is a winter release favorite that should be part of any dark beer lover’s beer fridge rotation.

7. Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale

samuel-smiths-nut-brown-ale

Check Price

Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown color, a pleasantly subtle nutty aroma, and flavors of caramel malt, rich brown bread, and dried red fruits.

Brown ales are a specialty of northern England (the most popular of which is Newcastle Brown Ale) which are fermented in stone Yorkshire squares (square tanks made from slate).

This full brown malt beer is brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use) and features the best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast, and aromatic hops. The flavor is derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt put into the mix.

While it’s not everyone’s preferred beer type, a quality brown ale like this offers something for the beer drinker who’s had enough German pilsners, American lagers, or craft brewery IPAs.

8. Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter

funky-buddha-maple-bacon-coffee-porter

Check Price

Described as a “diner breakfast” in a pint glass, this interesting porter offers a medium-bodied, flavorsome mix of malt and coffee alongside the sweetness of maple syrup, but without the cloying thickness.

It’s a truly unique tasting beer – there’s an enjoyable hint of smokey bacon in the background – yet this brew is an unmistakable porter, complete with layers of dark brown malt, coffee, and vanilla.

Funky Buddha’s approach to brewing is “big, bold flavors made exactingly with natural ingredients.”

If you have a knack for flavor and love the best experimental dark beer options, then Funky Buddha’s Maple Bacon Coffee Porter will be right up your alley.

9. Founders Brewing Co. KBS

founders-brewing-co-beer

Check Price

Founders Brewing Co. is a Michigan brewery that makes some of the best dark beer iterations anywhere. While the different variations are beyond me (a mere novice) to figure out, there’s something for every dark beer lover.

This KBS “Kentucky Breakfast Stout” is an imperial stout brewed with massive amounts of coffee and chocolate, that is then cave-aged in oak bourbon barrels for a year. The resultant beer offers roasted coffee intensity but with oak notes, hints of caramel and chocolate, and a lovely, slightly sweet bourbon aftertaste.

By the time you reach the bottom of your pint glass, you’ll notice the warmth and strength of the 12.3% ABV, but initially, it’s just an afterthought. A classically thick American Imperial stout, you’ll only be looking to savor one or two KBS pints at any one sitting.

10. Gouden Carolus Classic

gouden-carolus-classic

Check Price

Gouden Carolus Classic is fresh and enjoyable, particularly when paired with a variety of strongly flavored dishes, cheeses, and pate.

Named after King Charles V, this unique dark beer could almost be classed as a stout, yet is categorized as a Belgian strong ale bottled at 8.5% ABV.

Its richness is contrasted nicely by the bitterness of hops that helps augment a slightly sour profile. While not my style beer of choice, Gouden Carolus Classic can certainly be a great companion for feasting or enjoying after dinner with a nice cigar.

11. Péché Mortel

dieu-du-ciel-peche-mortel-bottle

Check Price

Péché Mortel (French for “Mortal Sin”) is brewed by Quebecois brewery Dieu du Ciel. This bottle is an intensely black Russian Imperial-style stout featuring pronounced roasted malt flavor with a huge infusion of coffee.

Fairtrade coffee is added during the brewing process to intensify the bitterness of the beer, which contrasts nicely against the high alcohol content.

If you’re after a heavy stout with malty flavor intensity this is the type of dark beer to accelerate your knowledge levels.

12. Left Hand Peanut Butter Milk Stout

left-hand-peanut-butter-milk-stout

Check Price

Not all darker beer offerings need to be so stolid and serious. This brew from Colorado’s Left Hand tastes just like a boozy Peanut Butter Cup.

This beer adds to the creamy chocolate overtones of a classic milk stout, with the added dimension of peanut butter.

Left Hand Peanut Butter Milk Stout makes for a fantastic dessert beer or nightcap!

13. Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout

great-divide-yeti

Check Price

An American imperial stout available year round from Colorado’s Great Divide, Yeti is a bombastic onslaught of malty goodness.

Yeti is pitch black, barely carbonated, and sits heavy in a pint glass, full of dark chocolate and roasted malt flavor on the nose and tongue. Dark coffee bitterness follows on the finish, alleviating the nearly 10% ABV.

A great, well-rounded craft beer for the Imperial stout novice, you’ll want to take Great Divide Yeti one beer at a time.

14. Deschutes Black Butte Porter

deschutes-black-butter-porter

Check Price

I could have gone with a number of different darker beer options from quality Oregon brewery Deschutes but settled on this porter.

More complex than a heavier stout, Black Butte is a subtler mix of malt and flavorsome chocolate, balanced by a nice pop of bitterness provided by the combination of Cascade, Bravo, and Tettnang hops.

If you want something a little more measured, with a lower ABV that retains a focus on hoppiness, Deschutes Black Butte Porter is well worth a look.

15. Russian River Brewing Consecration

russian-river-consecration

Check Price

Consecration is a barrel-aged beer from Russian River, the craft brewery behind the brilliant Pliny the Elder Imperial India Pale Ale. This is a heavy ABV (10.5%) American wild ale that uses wild yeast to create spontaneous fermentation.

The strong – as far as dark sour beers go – ale was aged for six months inside used cabernet sauvignon oak barrels with currants added. Consecration offers powerful scents of funky red fruit, grape, and plum, with flavors of sour cherry, nectarine, kumquat, apricot, and plum, before making way for a tart cherry heavy finish.

Consecration is one of the rare medium-bodied sour beers with a complex underlying sweetness that belies traditional description.

16. Hairless Dog Black Ale Non-Alcoholic Beer

hairless-dog-black-ale

Check Price

This dark beer from Minneapolis craft brewery Hairless Dog is “specifically brewed for those who crave a roasted malt flavor, and an ultra-smooth finish, without an overly bitter bite.”

Alcohol-free beer has rapidly moved from an afterthought to a commercially viable beer market focus for big brewing companies and independent craft beer producers.

Hairless Dog Brewing also offers three other non-alcoholic beer options: IPA, Citra lager, and coffee stout, which suits any traditional beer lover looking to enjoy an alcohol-free beverage. If you’re after the American craft beer experience but without alcohol, then the Hairless Dog craft beer range is for you.

14 Best Polish Vodkas To Try https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/best-polish-vodka/ https://nextluxury.com/food-travel/best-polish-vodka/#respond Mon, 27 Dec 2021 22:00:13 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=264279 …]]> I’m a huge believer in Polish vodka. I’ve written consistently that if given the choice I’d take a bottle of Polish vodka over their Russian counterparts, both for the quality of the liquid and from a price comparison standpoint.

Don’t get me wrong, Russian vodka is fantastic, but I love the commitment Polish producers take to differentiate their expressions from other European peers.

Traditional Polish vodka is famous for its rye distillate – which differs from other notable regions. France’s best vodka – Grey Goose Vodka and Ciroc Vodka for example – is made from grapes, while Russian Standard or Stolichnaya is crafted from wheat.

There are some truly exceptional Polish vodka brands that you can purchase for well under the $20 price point, while others offer interesting production methods and distillation processes.

Check out the following collection of the 14 best Polish vodkas to try and see for yourself!

Best Buy

1. Chopin Potato Vodka

chopin-potato-vodka

Check Price

Chopin Potato Vodka is the world’s most awarded potato vodka distilled at Polmos Siedlce distillery.

Its unique, creamy mouthfeel belies its crisp aftertaste and the notes of nuts, black pepper, and fragrant flower flavors give this Polish vodka a more full-bodied flavor and creamier mouthfeel than the other almost neutral vodka spirits in the market.

Chopin vodka also has rye vodka, wheat vodka, and a premium Family Reserve variety that is the best vodka for sipping chilled. Use Chopin Potato vodka in a simple vodka martini, Bloody Mary, or Moscow mule, or drink it over ice or with fruit juice.

2. Belvedere Single Estate Rye Smogory Forest Vodka

belvedere-forest-vodka

Check Price

Belvedere Single Estate Rye Vodka Smogory Forest (and its fellow rye vodka grain to glass expression Lake Bartezek) is the new school of Polish vodka production, distilled with local personality with an emphasis on crafting distinct regional alcohol.

Taste wise Smogory Forest shows off an interesting aroma and palate, trading in the ultra-premium crispness and clarity for hints of Polish favorites, including cinnamon, spice, vegetation, and peppery blasts on the tongue.

This Belvedere vodka is a tremendously innovative and unique drink that can be used in any situation, from an ultra-chilled round of shots to start the party, or to the classic Belvedere vodka cocktail you find at a gala event or opening.

3. Wódka Vodka

wodka-vodka

Check Price

Wódka Vodka is arguably the best value bottle of spirits of any type. It’s as simple as they come and true to the spirit (pun intended) of keeping vodka clean and neutral on the palate and on the backup.

While Wódka Vodka’s price is its main selling point, this Polish vodka makes an exceptional addition to apple juice, grapefruit, or your favorite mixed drink.

While other cheap brands can give you a hot aftertaste of the alcohol, Wódka Vodka is surprisingly smooth. A great choice for the vodka drinker looking for no frills enjoyment!

4. Sobieski Vanilla Vodka

sobieski-vodka

Check Price

Sobieski vodka is a Polish rye spirit inspired by the iconic king Sobieski, who defended Europe against the Ottomans. It’s crafted with crystal clear water and top quality, 100% Polish rye, and continuous distillation – courtesy of the highest column still in Europe – helps create one of the smoothest vodkas in the world.

I like all of the Sobieski vodka bottles I’ve tasted (backpacking through Europe will do that), but my favorite thus far is the slightly sweeter, more distinctive vanilla flavored vodka (cinnamon too is excellent). It tastes much like a luxury vodka yet without the hefty price tag of a more famous Ciroc Vodka expression.

If you are a dedicated fan of flavored vodka looking for inexpensive bottles to stock up your home bar for entertaining, then I’d certainly recommend Sobieski.

5. Wyborowa Vodka

wyborowa-vodka

Check Price

One of the cheaper Polish vodkas available (I’m inclined to drink them at every opportunity before anything else) Wyborowa means “selected.”

Interestingly, it’s a rye grain vodka that’s smooth yet likes to keep the rye influence intact, which aligns nicely with the spicy flavor of a Moscow mule or Bloody Mary. It’s also versatile for use in simple drinks like vodka soda or vodka and orange juice.

If you’re a whiskey drinker that likes to dabble in cocktails or a mixologist looking for a genuinely good cheap priced option to go further at party time, Wyborowa Vodka is an option well worth considering.

6. Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka

zubroka-vodak

Check Price

Poland has been producing their favorite vodka (a rye grain distillate) flavored with a particular grass eaten by Bison in the Białowieża Forest for hundreds of years. The Białowieża Forest is Europe’s largest woods – straddling the border between Poland and Belarus.

Zu, as it’s known, is light yellow in color with an aroma of lemon, citrus, and herbs. A nutty flavor carries the otherwise pleasant vegetal palate and it possesses a nice creamy thickness.

Each bottle of the expression – which had been banned for nearly 30 years in the US – comes with a blade of Bison grass inside. The grassy rye fermentation makes Zu a natural for use in a classic Moscow mule, or other cocktails built on spicier ingredients such as a Bloody Mary.

7. Potocki Wodka Polish Vodka

potocki-vodka

Check Price

While Potocki Wodka uses rye grain, it is crafted in a distinctly different manner to some of the other best Polish vodkas.

Potocki Wodka is distilled just twice – others can be distilled as many as five times – at slow speeds to ensure balance and a full flavor profile and bottled without charcoal filtration to retain the natural, slightly nutty flavor of the spirit.

The liquid offers a slightly sweeter palate contrasted by the nutty flavor and offers a full, creamy mouthfeel at odds with traditional Polish vodka’s characteristic crispness.

If you want to experience a unique premium vodka to tempt your local vodka expert, then this is a bottle I would consider introducing.

8. V-One Cucumber Vodka

v-one-vodka

Check Price

This vodka brand offers a great standard vodka along with a few other flavored vodka expressions utilizing citrus and berries, however, the best V-One bottle is this cucumber expression.

Polish “ogórek” cucumbers are infused with 100% Spelt vodka and a hint of Meyer lemon to create a truly refreshing spirit that’s perfect for sipping chilled or for use in a premium vodka cocktail.

While less famous than other luxury vodka brands, you’ll find V-One is a worthy addition to your home bar.

9. Zoladkowa Traditional Vodka

zoladkowa-vodka

Check Price

Zoladkowa Vodka is inspired by nalewkas, the Polish method of steeping herbs in alcohol, and is crafted following a 19th-century traditional recipe.

Unlike other Polish vodkas on this list Zoladkowa is meant to have the herbal taste come through on the palate – much like a quality botanical gin offers a range of flavor snippets.

Zoladkowa is a flavorsome vodka meant for enjoyment by itself, and I would highly recommend it to the vodka lover looking for a unique, regional traditional recipe with characteristics that differ from clean, neutral versions of the spirit.

10. The Countless Walewska Vodka

countess-waleweska-vodka

Check Price

While not technically a Polish vodka – the water is distilled in the Napa Valley – The Countess is very much a Polish-inspired spirit.

The Countess Walewska is part of a larger collection of spirits called Great Women Spirits by Francis Ford Coppola, which honors individual accomplishments and tells the stories of women throughout history.

Countess Walewska is one of history’s great symbols of purity and loyalty. Known for her beauty and intellect, she was a fervent Polish patriot, who at one point had the ear of Napoleon.

If you’re after a crisp, clean-tasting vodka with little ethanol carry-over that comes with the potential for tremendous stories, then try The Countess Walewska.

11. Polish Standard Vodka

polish-standard-vodka

Check Price

Much like its Eastern counterpart, Russian Standard, Polish Standard is a vodka brand made for simplicity.

It’s a clean, neutral-tasting spirit that appeals to Polish pride in their most popular traditional spirit, eschewing bells and whistles in favor of grain to glass “rough luxury.”

There’s nothing fancy about Polish Standard vodka. It’s inexpensive and extremely useful for bolstering all types of cocktails. Whether a vodka martini or a tray full of shooters, you’ll get great value!

12. Debowa Polska Vodka

debowa-vodka-1

Check Price

Oak vodka is a new one for me but it did impress my whiskey palate. Debowa Polska Vodka is the most expensive vodka on this list, but it’s also arguably the most interesting.

Debowa is a premium vodka distilled using elderflower and oak wood to create a vodka that hovers between herbal vodka and flavored vodka.

There are strong whiskey-like wood notes along with pepper and spice, with the elderflower giving the liquid a tasty sweet addition that helps balance the wood.

Debowa Polska Vodka is a bottle you keep on the top shelf for evenings where entertaining and storytelling take over.

13. Flame Vodka

flame-vodka

Check Price

Have you ever drank vodka from a bright red bottle that looks exactly like a fire extinguisher?

If the answer to that question is no, then I would highly recommend Flame Vodka. And to be honest, even if the answer is yes, I’d recommend trying this vodka brand.

Sure, it’s a crisp and interesting vodka made using a traditional Polish vodka recipe, but that doesn’t really matter too much when it’s housed in such provocative packaging.

Sometimes you have to enjoy a bit of mischief!

14. Gruven Vodka

gruven-vodka

Check Price

The running theme with the best Polish vodka brands is that you can get extremely enjoyable bottles at very cheap prices.

Gruven Vodka is another in this style of neutral spirit – well made but inexpensive. This handcrafted vodka uses both Polish rye and wheat in its recipe.

Quadruple distillation and a multi-step filtration process create the highest level of smoothness and incredible taste, which belies Gruven Vodka’s cheap price point.

It’s another bottle I’d recommend for large scale entertaining and experimental mixology!
