While there are many different options to choose from, two of the most renowned brands are definitely Thorogood and Red Wing Heritage. From the quality of the leather to the durable and long-lasting nature, these brands have managed to master the art of creating the perfect work boot.

However, while both brands are top-notch, it is important to know which is best suited for you and your needs. That being said, keep reading for Next Luxury’s guide on everything you need to know about Thorogood Boots and Red Wing Heritage Boots.

Thorogood Boots

Thorogood Boots

Merit School

The first boot from Thorogood to make a mark on the industry was the “Jobber” work boot. Due to their unique and functional design, Thorogood was able to make a name for itself as one of the most well-constructed footwear options for men who work laborious jobs or find themselves on their feet for long stints of time and in rough conditions.

Since the Jobber, Thorogood has come out with several different styles and designs. While some of these are more focused on safety, there are also a few options that can be used more superficially for style. In regards to their appearance, most Thorogood boots have a more traditional style that features a moc toe and lace-up design in the front. They also come in a variety of different colors ranging from light brown to walnut to black.

Red Wing Heritage Boots

Red Wing’s line of Heritage boots all boast premium leather, resoleable welts so that you can maintain these boots for several years, and heavy-duty stitching. While the Classic Moc and Classic Chelsea are both solid options, the most popular Red Wing Heritage boots are definitely the Blacksmith and the Iron Ranger. With distinctive cap-toe and nickel-plated eyelets, the Red Wing Heritage Iron Ranger Boots are a stunning option that catches the eye.

This timeless classic manages to nail a perfect mixture of ruggedness and elegance, giving it a range of style for those who wear it. The Iron Ranger is definitely a thicker boot, however, the slim sole and full-grain leather upper allow for the boot to retain its classic appeal. Also, these boots are made from Amber Harness and Roughout leather, which can be a bit of a hassle to break in.

However, after a few months, the leather patinas quite nicely, giving you a perfect surface. While the Blacksmith is nearly identical to the Iron Ranger, there are a few key differences between the two. For example, the Red Wing Blacksmiths do not feature cap-toe, adding some extra wiggle-room to the boot and also giving them a slightly sleeker appearance.

Another way to recognize a Blacksmith is by the brass hardware, which tends to complement a variety of leather colors more than the nickel. The Red Wing Heritage Blacksmith’s come in a handful of different leather types, none of which are as iconic as the Iron Ranger’s options. However, the most popular leathers for the Blacksmith boots are briar slick, black prairie, and roughout.

At the end of the day, both boots are wonderful options that will take you far in regards to durability and comfort. However, Red Wing Heritage boots do use a material that is slightly better than Thorogood, meaning their boots have a better chance at lasting longer and maintaining quality. That being said, if you have a job that requires you to have work boots that place an emphasis on safety, Thorogood might be the better brand.

Trousers vs. Chinos: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/trousers-vs-chinos/ https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/trousers-vs-chinos/#respond Sat, 11 Dec 2021 18:00:16 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=262259 …]]> Though trousers may sound a bit more sophisticated or fancy than the word “pants,” they simply mean the same thing. Back in the day, trousers often referred to a more formal pair of pants, but in modern times, trousers and pants are interchangeable words that basically encompass the entire realm of jeans, dress pants, khakis, and more. Chinos are simply another category of pants that have become increasingly popular over the years due to their simple yet intentional style and laidback look.

Able to be dressed up or dressed down, having at least a few pairs of chinos in your closet is a major necessity for the modern man, but it is important to first understand what chinos really are and why they have become such a beloved pair of trousers. Keep reading for Next Luxury’s full breakdown on everything you need to know about chinos in comparison to other trousers.

Chinos

Todd Snyder 5-Pocket Chino

Chinos are a type of trouser that is known for being very lightweight and simple. Being that they are neither formal nor informal, they are incredibly versatile, able to be worn for a variety of settings such as semi-casual and business casual environments. Most often they are made from cotton-twill material, giving them a simple and soft feel.

Sometimes, chinos can also be recognized by some more basic, everyday features such as patch pockets or decorative stitchings. Also, while many men are not aware of this, chinos that come in a khaki color are usually called khaki’s, not chinos. Khaki’s are also known to use cotton that is a much heavier weight than regular chinos, creating a more easily recognized distinction between the two.

Modern chinos are known to have a slimmer fit and silhouette than more traditional chinos. Though these trousers first became popular with both the American and British armies before making their way into mainstream fashion, they are now a solid go-to choice for men who like to keep things simple yet stylish. Also, while the cotton-twill material mentioned above is the most common fabric that chinos come in, they are also sometimes available in moleskin, wool, and corduroy.

When To Wear Chinos

When to Wear Chinos

The beautiful thing about chinos is that they can be worn to a variety of different events and in a variety of different settings. Since they fall somewhere in the middle between formal and casual, chinos make for a great everyday option for men who like to look their best without overdoing it. However, there are definitely some places and settings where chinos are not the most appropriate trouser option.

For example, very formal occasions such as weddings or black tie events require dress pants. Wearing chinos at one of the places would surely result in some strange looks and slight embarrassment. Another good time to forgo chinos is if you are going somewhere that is very casual. For instance, if you are hitting up a summer party or beach day with friends, leave the chinos at home and opt for a pair of casual shorts or swim trunks.

Chelsea Boots vs. Chukka Boots: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/chelsea-vs-chukka/ https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/chelsea-vs-chukka/#respond Sat, 04 Dec 2021 18:00:01 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=261352 …]]> With boot season pretty much here, now is the perfect time to brush up on the differences between Chelsea boots and chukka boots. Both options are sleek and modern styles of men’s footwear, though they are far from being the same. While they might have a similar shape and look, Chelsea and chukka boots have a lot of differences, including formality and versatility.

Though it isn’t a bad idea to have both shoes in your closet and on standby, a style-forward man should be able to distinguish between the two with ease to ensure that his ensemble is put together properly and efficiently. Thankfully, Next Luxury is here to give you a helping hand with our full guide on everything you need to know about Chelsea boots and chukka boots.

Chelsea Boots

Chelsea-Boots

Most commonly made from leather, Chelsea boots are ankle boots that have an elastic gore panel on the sides for greater flexibility and comfort. In general, Chelsea boots come in two different styles with one being a thicker and chunkier shape with a rounded toe box, and the other a slimmer, more European style with a narrower toe box. Though the thicker style might be considered a bit more heavy-duty and stabilizing, the European style is definitely the appropriate option for more formal attire.

It is even possible to wear them with a suit when styled properly. When it comes to the sole of the shoe, most Chelsea boots feature a leather sole, but rubber soles are becoming increasingly popular. Chelsea boots are also known for having an extremely clean silhouette that makes them appear very sleek and suave.

Chukka Boots

Leather,Shoes,Italian,Chukka,Boots

Chukka boots are also ankle boots, though they feature a lace-up system in the front. Also, while they are commonly leather, they are also available in suede and sometimes even canvas uppers. They are definitely a great option to have during the cooler months as they provide nice durability and solid insulation.

The most distinguishing feature of chukka boots is certainly the lacing, though a couple of brands have attempted to create chukka boots with a slip-on design. Whether you want to wear them with chinos or jeans, chukka boots can be worn in a wide array of settings, however, they are not as easily paired with suits or very formal attire.

The Differences Between the Two

Differences-Between-Chelsea-Boots-and-Chukka-Boots

There is no denying that chukka boots are much more versatile than Chelsea boots, meaning if you are only able to purchase one pair, chukka boots will likely get you further and pair better with more outfit options. However, when it comes to putting together a fancier ensemble, Chelsea boots tend to be the better option due to their slim fit and streamlined construction. While both boots are considered “dress boots,” they each have a distinguished style and look that you’ll want to pay close attention to before making a decision.

Chelsea boots are also known for being a bit more modern due to their unique, laceless design. Finally, chukka boots tend to have a lower ankle than Chelsea boots and they maintain a classic and elegant look while still being more unique than a typical pair of Oxfords or loafers. As stated before, we recommended having a pair of each in your closet so that you have the option to switch it up when necessary and look your best throughout the colder seasons.

Slim Fit vs. Slim Fit: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/slim-fit-vs-slim-straight/ https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/slim-fit-vs-slim-straight/#respond Sat, 27 Nov 2021 18:00:22 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=259891 …]]> Figuring out how to best rock a nice pair of trousers or jeans starts by knowing which fit looks most flattering on your body type. On top of that, certain occasions also call for certain fits, meaning you’ll want to know the basics of each kind of fit before making a purchase. While there are several different kinds of styles and cuts, the two that we are going to focus on in this article are slim fit trousers and slim straight fit trousers.

Though the fits share several similar qualities, there are some slight differences that distinguish one from the other, specifically in terms of comfort. If you want to optimize comfort levels and attractiveness, keep reading for Next Luxury’s guide to everything you need to know about slim fit and slim straight fit pants.

Slim Fit

Young,European,Man,In,White,Sweater,And,Black,Pants,Posing

Slim fit pants are known for being a more consistent style and fit across various brands. When it comes to the leg opening, slim fit trousers generally have a leg opening that is a bit smaller than the top part of the pant leg and then taper below the knee.

As the name suggests, they are designed to be more form fitting, therefore they are not the fit that you’re going to want to go for something a bit more loose or comfortable. Though slim fit pants are not necessarily skin tight (like skinny jeans), they are fitted enough to show some definition and shape.

Slim Straight Fit

Slim-straight-fit-pants

Slim straight fit pants are very similar to slim fit trousers, however, they are slightly looser. Basically, the pants still hug the knees just as they do in a pair of slim fits, but the leg flares out more. Unlike straight fit jeans, where they do not hug but are rather form fitted, a slim straight fit still appears tighter and accentuates the body.

Though the differences are subtle, those who pay close attention to detail will catch them. Also, the wearer of the jeans or trousers will be able to feel a difference in comfort level when comparing slim fit pants and slim straight fit pants.

Who Should Wear What?

Slim-Fit-vs.-Slim-Straight-Fit-Guidelines

If you are looking to show off your shape, specifically the contour of the legs and waist, then you’ll want to go with a pair of slim fit pants. Keep in mind that if you carry some extra weight in the middle or lower half of your body, this kind of fit might get a bit uncomfortable after a few hours of wear.

If you are trying to conceal any specific parts of your lower half, specifically the thigh area, then you definitely will want to avoid a slim fit pair of pants being that there will be very little room to do so. However, if you have skinnier legs and do not like the way that looser jeans may appear to swallow you or make your legs basically non-existent, then slim fit pants will be a great go-to for you.

Since there is not a huge difference in the style of slim fit and straight slim fit trousers, the advice on who should wear these pants is pretty much the same. On the flip side, when it comes to the comfort levels that you are seeking, a straight slim fit provides a little extra give and roominess for those who like a form-fitted style yet enjoy a less intense tightness.

Located within the historical Fairmont Miramar Hotel, FIG serves up fresh ingredients in seasonal dishes both on a poolside patio as well as within the modern, European-esque dining room. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, order the featured classic cocktail of the month and let the bartenders treat you to a surprise.

Also, keep in mind that  FIG places an emphasis on sourcing ingredients from local farmers’ markets, meaning the menu has a tendency to change rather frequently, though there are a few solid dishes that you can expect to find all year round. Some of our favorites include the main lobster cobb, cacio e pepe, Mary’s half roasted chicken, and Margherita pizza. If you’d rather visit FIG for a weekend brunch, don’t miss out on their buttermilk donuts and FIG eggs benedict.

Blue Plate Taco is a hip Mexican restaurant located right on Ocean Avenue. Both their tacos and drinks have a contemporary twist to them, and their dishes tend to be a little lighter than authentic Mexican cuisine. If you enjoy a refreshing cocktail, you’ll definitely want to give their La Pina a spin. This pineapple-based margarita has an interesting kick due to the pineapple being charred and the flavor is made even more intense with a little cilantro.

king-and-queen-cantina

Since its opening in 2020, King and Queen Cantina has seriously made some major waves in Santa Monica. Combining authentic Mexican flavors with a more modern approach has led to some insanely innovative dishes such as their hot Cheetos Japamex sushi roll and their bone marrow tacos. In regards to drinks, obviously, a margarita or two is necessary to round out the Mexican-inspired meal.

However, if you are having a hard time choosing just one flavor, go for their Margarita flight and give their cucumber, watermelon, pomegranate, Gardez, and mango Margaritas a try. Keep in mind that they do not take reservations and they tend to get pretty busy. If you can, snag a spot on their outdoor patio and catch some great people-watching along Ocean Avenue.

Cap Toe vs. Wingtip: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/cap-toe-vs-wingtip/ https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/cap-toe-vs-wingtip/#respond Tue, 09 Nov 2021 19:00:03 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=257302 …]]> From the shape to the laces to the color, there are several components that make dress shoes one of the more complex and intricate parts of a man’s wardrobe. The many factors that go into dress shoes need to be evaluated before making a solid pick for any special or formal occasion. One of the lesser-known yet more important components of a pair of dress shoes is definitely the toe. While there are a few different toe options to be explored when purchasing dress shoes, the two that we are going to focus on in this article are cap toes and wingtips. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about cap toe shoes and wingtip shoes.

Wingtip Shoes

Close,Up,Of,Custom,Handmade,Full,Brogues,(wingtips),Man,Genuine

A wingtip shoe can easily be defined as any shoe that has a wing-shaped line of stitching along the upper part of the shoe. This stitching essentially creates an artificial border between the toe box and vamp of the shoe. Considered great for smart-casual or business-casual attire, wingtips tend to have nice detailing and decorative perforations, though not all wingtips have this. If a pair of wingtip shoes do have these perforations, they can also be referred to as brogues. However, simple dress-shoes that have just a wingtip stitching are not brogues and should not be labeled as such. While several dress shoes tend to be set in one solid color, wingtips, along with cap toes, give you a bit more room for funkiness and flexibility. Multi-colored Oxfords are a great example of that versatile stitching having a creative twist put on it. Having a white toe that contrasts with a black or brown body add some extra flair to any formal or business-casual outfit.

Cap Toe Shoes

A,Closeup,Of,A,Groomsman,Wearing,Cap,Toe,Shoes

Similar to wingtip shoes, cap toes can best be defined as having a line of stitches separating the toe area from the rest of the shoe. However, rather than having the W-shaped line that you’ll find with wingtips, cap toe’s specifically use stitching that forms a horizontal line. In addition to this, there are a few different features that seem to remain common throughout most cap toe shoes, making it easier to identify them when you are shopping. First, most cap toe dress shoes come in a rather standard set of color variations. Second, cap toe dress shoes are also most commonly made from either leather or suede, with leather being a bit more formal and suede being more casual. In addition, you are more likely to find some sort of decorative pattern or perforations across the toe box.

Differences Between the Two

Men,Footwear,Fashion.,Variety,Of,Male’s,Shoes,On,Shelf,In

Clearly, the biggest distinction between cap toe shoes and wingtip shoes lies in the stitching on the upper. If the stitching on the shoe is a straight, horizontal line, then you are looking at a cap toe. If the stitching is one in a W or wing-shaped line, you’ve got a wingtip on your hands. Though both shoes tend to come in similar colors and be made of either leather or suede, wingtips are generally considered more casual than cap toe shoes due to their funkier design. If you are ever attending a very formal event and are unsure of which to go with, remember that it is better to be overdressed than underdressed, meaning you should go with the cap toe shoes.

Boat Shoes vs. Loafers: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/boat-shoes-vs-loafers/ https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/boat-shoes-vs-loafers/#respond Sat, 06 Nov 2021 15:00:19 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=256863 …]]> While dress shoes are often the more complicated kind of footwear, it is important to be educated on various kinds of everyday footwear in order to not only look your best but walk comfortably and without injury. The shoes that we wear every day can have a major impact on feet, meaning it is imperative to not only have your sizing in order but also know which occasions and settings call for which kinds of shoes.

Boat shoes and loafers are two casual kinds of footwear that look and feel similar in certain ways but are actually quite different in others. From various details such as their lacing and outsoles, there are some key distinctions to be aware of when shopping for your next pair of everyday footwear. In order to get you started, here is our guide to everything you need to know about boat shoes and loafers.

Boat Shoes

Boat Shoes

pxfuel.com

There is no denying the fact that boat shoes literally look like shoes that should be worn on a boat. The decorative lacing that wraps around the body of the shoe has a very nautical vibe to it, adhering to the famous name. They are also known for having razor-cut soles to help with grip. Though boat shoes are very casual, they often have subtle yet nice detailing in them that does not go unnoticed.

Loafers

Loafers

pixabay.com

Loafers are perhaps most famous for their slip-on design, making them easy and convenient to put on Though they have no laces, their easy-to-use design means that there is no real reason to have laces in the first place. While this does mean that loafers are perhaps as comfortable as a shoe can be, it is extra important to make sure that you always get the correct size when buying a pair since you won’t have the option of tightening the shoes with laces if needed.

Key Differences Between the Two

Boat Shoe vs. Loafer

Pinterest

The biggest difference between boat shoes and loafers is the fact that loafers will never have laces. Ever. Boat shoes on the other hand almost always have a long lace that is made of either leather or nylon. Another difference between the two is the outsoles. Boat shoes were designed with rubber outsoles, keeping a sailor on a slippery boat deck in mind.

The rubber outsoles provide ample traction and grip, while loafers often have leather outsoles or even a synthetic combination of rubber or leather. Also, being that loafers were originally inspired by moccasins, it is no surprise that loafers are seen as a more casual type of shoe.

However, when compared to boat shoes, some loafers can pass as smart-casual, while boat shoes are strictly casual through and through. Though this might seem surprising the often rigid shape of boat shoes, they are also seen as the more comfortable option, often unbeatable when compared to other kinds of footwear.

Similarities Between the Two

Similarities Boat Shoes vs. Loafers

themanual.com

While there are some important differences between the two, it is impossible to ignore the very obvious similarities that exist as well. For one, both boat shoes and loafers have heels (though loafer heels are often higher). Another similarity can be found in the stitched upper seams on both kinds of footwear.

Overall, if you’re having a hard time choosing between the two shoes, just remember that loafers can be a bit more dressed up than boat shoes, but boat shoes are a tad more comfortable and can be worn without issue for longer periods of time.
